Our Beth wins Community Volunteer Award
Beth became a regular volunteer in the Quarry Café at the end of January this year whilst taking a break from school. Beth works the full day every Wednesday including setting up and clearing up and at the time of nomination she had contributed over 119 hours. More importantly though, Beth has proved to be an outstanding volunteer. Beth has a natural work ethic that is rarely found in young people of her age and her attention to detail and willingness to learn are beyond compare. She is always calm and attentive to others but at the same time very quick and efficient in her work and always maintains the highest standard of quality in the service provided to our Café visitors.
Amongst her other duties in the Cafe, Beth has learnt to use the espresso coffee machine and is highly proficient in the production of the hot drinks served and often takes the role of duty barista. Beth is also gradually being trained in all operational aspects of the café and by the end of the summer she will have spent at least one week in total charge of the café and all it’s staff, at the age of 17 this is an incredible achievement. Sarah Howland said “Whilst attending Mid Sussex Young Volunteers Award Ceremony at Borde Hill Gardens on the 6th June I was delighted that Beth was announced the joint winner of the Community Volunteer Category. I cannot express enough my delight to be working with Beth in the Café, she is outstanding in all that she does. The Quarry Café is all the better for having Beth as such a key volunteer, she is a credit to her family and the Stone Quarry Community and it’s lovely to see her hard work and dedication rewarded in this way.”
